Rob Dempsey, a beloved Christian radio host known for his uplifting presence on South Carolina’s Rob and Lizz in the Morning, passed away on October 23 following complications related to stage 3 bladder cancer. For over two decades, Rob inspired and uplifted his listeners on HIS Radio in Greenville, SC, touching hearts across North and South Carolina and Georgia.
Rob was diagnosed with cancer on October 15 and had been hospitalized for emergency surgery on October 21. Tragically, he went into cardiac arrest on October 23, leading to his passing. His colleagues at HIS Radio shared a heartfelt tribute, expressing that Rob “always had us laughing” and describing him as “a leader, an encourager, and a friend to the Greenville community.”
Originally from St. Petersburg, FL, Rob’s journey to Christian radio was remarkable. From struggling as a homeless teen, he found hope through a youth pastor and a chance encounter with a Christian station in Florida. “I had given up on life,” Rob once shared. “Then I prayed, ‘God, I want to do what that guy on the radio is doing.’” That prayer led him to over 35 years in radio, starting as a volunteer DJ, and eventually becoming the operations and program director for HIS Radio.
Rob leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Amy, their four children, and many foster children they cared for over the years. His son, Spencer, expressed gratitude to the community, saying, “He’s whole, he’s healthy, and he’s dancing with his Savior.”
Listeners and friends flooded social media to remember his light, laughter, and impact. Rob’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his work and his unwavering faith in God.
