After a two-year battle with stage IV cancer, Chris Chicago, a longtime Christian radio host and CHH advocate, is now in the arms of Jesus. He leaves behind his wife, Jessica, and their four children. While we mourn his loss, we also take solace in knowing he has found peace beyond understanding.
Chris’ journey with Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) began in 2003 when he founded Jam the Hype, becoming a cornerstone of the genre. His career in radio spanned multiple platforms, including 107.5 The River, Save the City Records, NGEN Radio, and Rapzilla.com Live with Chris Chicago. His show introduced a wide range of Christian rap artists to a large audience, giving exposure to countless musicians, regardless of their reach.
In 2015, Chris launched Rapzilla.com Live, which ran for 138 episodes, elevating CHH to new heights. Afterward, he transitioned to WayFM Radio and SoFlow, “THE Christian Hip-Hop Radio Station.”
Last year, Chris publicly shared his cancer diagnosis—stage 4 melanoma. His battle was met with the same faith and optimism that defined his life. A GoFundMe campaign raised over $90,000 for his treatment, reflecting the deep love and support from the community he touched.
Though Chris fought valiantly, his health rapidly declined over the summer, leading to his peaceful passing on September 22nd. His wife, Jessica, shared, “I am so proud of Chris and how hard he fought… there is nobody else like him.”
Chris Chicago’s legacy in Christian radio and CHH will never be forgotten. We ask for prayers for his family and for the countless lives he impacted through the airwaves as they navigate this time of grief.
