In a heartfelt social media post, Michael Tait, the beloved lead vocalist of Newsboys, announced his decision to step down after an extraordinary 15-year journey with the iconic Christian band. This moment marks the end of a transformative era for Tait and the band, leaving fans reflecting on years of powerful ministry through music.
Tait, who joined Newsboys in 2009, shared how stepping into the role of lead vocalist changed his life forever. “The years since have been some of the most fulfilling, faith-filled, and rewarding years of my life,” he wrote. During his tenure, Newsboys produced unforgettable music, including hits like Born Again, We Believe, Worldwide Revival, and the anthem God’s Not Dead.
While Tait acknowledged the difficulty of his decision, he emphasized that it came after much prayer and fasting, finding clarity in Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” He expressed both nervousness and excitement for what lies ahead.
Tait extended heartfelt gratitude to his bandmates—Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis, and Adam Agee—whom he described as family, as well as the dedicated Newsboys crew and their unwavering fans. “Your love and support has meant everything,” he said.
The Newsboys responded to Tait’s announcement with a statement of gratitude for his contributions. The band affirmed their mission to bring people closer to Christ through music, a calling that has defined their journey since their founding in 1989.
“We are grateful for the extended season Michael has had with Newsboys,” the band shared. “As he walks into the next chapter of his life, we step into the next season of Newsboys, trusting in God’s plan for our future.”
The band remains committed to their ministry, kicking off their Worldwide Revival Nights tour this weekend. They reassured fans that while change is inevitable, their mission remains the same: “Newsboys isn’t going anywhere; we’re going everywhere. The next chapter is just beginning!”
This transition highlights the timeless truth of Proverbs 16:9: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
As Michael Tait ventures into a new chapter and the Newsboys continue their journey, both remain dedicated to spreading hope, love, and faith to the world through music.
